Pigmented Lesions – $200
What are Pigmented Lesions?
Melanin is the dark pigment present in the skin and it’s produced by melanocytes. Pigmented lesions occur when an abundance of melanocytes is found in the skin. When dark pigment multiplies, it forms freckles, brown age spots, moles and lentigines.
- Lentigines – Flat, brown spots on the skin that frequently occur due to sun exposure
- Keratoses – Slightly elevated pigmented spots often found on the back and hands
- Freckles – Brown spots (common on fair skin)
- Dermatosis Papulosis Nigra – Small, black raised lesions (more common on darker skin)
How do we treat it?
Our office carries the KTP laser which emits an intense beam of light which is selectively absorbed by unwanted pigment. The surrounding tissue is minimally affected due to the laser being so precise. A full session requires about 30 minutes to complete.
What to expect during the treatment?
When the laser hits the precise area, you will feel a hot tingly sensation. Most patients do get a little red and swollen. Not to worry as we do provide ice packs, that will help pull that heat off. Some of the pigmented lesions will turn a gray color and make a popping sound, letting the esthetician know that the pigment has been attacked and the treatment is working.
What happens after the treatment?
The areas that were treated will be surrounded by a red flush which resolves in a few hours. Areas treated for any abnormal vessels may also form a linear scaly surface crust over the vessels treated. These will fall off by themselves in a few days.
Consultation required before treatment.
