PRP – Platelet Rich Plasma Procedures

PRP Therapy promotes collagen production, regenerates tissue, and tightens skin.

As part of the body’s healing ability, platelets and other components in human blood migrate to the point of care. Platelets are well known to release numerous growth factors that respond to tissue injury and initiate and promote the conditions for healing. Eclipse PRP is an autologous system that allows physicians to prepare platelet-rich plasma at the patient point of care.   This system has been safely used in hundreds of thousands of procedures worldwide.

Dr. Kathleen Smith at Dermatology Specialists of Atlanta in Decatur, GA has achieved outstanding results for her patients using PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) therapy. Areas that have been proven beneficial with PRP therapy include:

  • Facial Rejuvenation
  • Hair Rejuvenation
  • Acne & Other Scarring
  • Vulver Lichen Sclerosis
  • Stretch Marks

Hair Loss – PRP

PRP injections have shown efficacy in the treatment of alopecia, including pattern/androgenetic alopecia, alopecia areata, and in some forms of scarring alopecia.  One of the mechanisms of action of these injections is to stimulate stem cells which remain present within follicular units.

This treatment may be used alone or in combination with other treatments for hair loss including oral, topical and medication injections.

The PRP contains the patient’s own serum and cells and thus is safe.

Rejuvenation Face Lift-PRP

PRP injections are used alone or in combinations with fillers or a fractional laser procedure to rejuvenate the skin.  The platelet derived growth factors and the matrix proteins can stimulate the production of new collagen within the dermis to decrease lines and wrinkle, and stimulate the overly epidermis to return to a more youthful morphology, improving the clinical appearance of the skin.

These injections may contain stem cell populations, and may have synergy with other non-invasive rejuvenation procedures and/or topical therapies.

PRP contains the patient’s own serum and cells and thus is safe.  If desired topical anesthesia can be used prior to injections.

Acne and Other Scarring

PRP injections can be used for acne scarring.  The PRP fraction with the highest concentration of growth factors and matrix proteins is injected into depressed scars.  Fractional Lasers in combination with PRP are particularly useful in acne patient where lower concentration PRP fraction is applied topically following the laser therapy. Hypertrophic or keloidal scars can also be treated with the fractional laser by tailoring of the post procedure treatment to the specific defect.

Vulvar Lichen Sclerosis

PRP injections can be used for vulvar lichen sclerosis.  The PRP fraction with the highest concentration of growth factors and matrix proteins is injected into the area of lichen sclerosis.  The lower concentration PRP fraction is applied topically. In a large study reported, 35% of individual reported complete resolution of lichen sclerosis, and almost all patients had improvement.

Stretch Marks

Fractional Lasers have shown efficacy for the treatment of stretch marks, and subsequent topical application of your own platelet rich plasma may provide additional efficacy.

*Our PRP procedure provides a high yield of product for injection, and if desired prior topical anesthesia will be used
